Volunteer with us!

ArtSpace exists for the well-being of the residents of Macclesfield and surrounding areas, to provide a large, open space with arts materials and equipment to create art and make things happen! Through providing this space, accessible classes and arts services to the local community, we provide a place to connect through the arts and creative projects. We help people to build confidence and self esteem, share skills and time. Anyone who has an interest is welcome, including budding artists, those experiencing isolation and exclusion, managing mental health issues or learning disabilities, younger or older people and anyone else facing challenges could you volunteer in Macclesfield with us?  

We run various projects and groups for people to come along and join in or initiate their own activities. Individuals, families, schools and other groups come together to build floats and giant puppets, make costumes and banners, music and mayhem! Past projects include the creation and production of Barnaby Arts Festival’s biennial parade, decorations for local events such as Treacle Market, Party in the Pews, The Doll’s House Art Gallery exhibition and craft activities at the Platinum Jubilee celebrations. 

We are a volunteer-run organisation supported by a part time coordinator that is always looking for more dedicated volunteers in Macclesfield to help to keep the building open and raise money to continue our work. Everyone is welcome and no experience is necessary, we just ask that you have a passion for the arts and our community!

“What might I be asked to do if I volunteer?”

• You may be suited to being a “duty volunteer”, to keep the doors open welcome visitors to the space and be a point of contact for enquiries
• Helping with admin
• Running or supporting arts sessions and workshops
• Become part of an events team that provides arts and crafts activities or decor for community events
• Joining a “tidy up” or “sorting crew”
• Ensuring that the building is secure, clean and tidy
• You will be invited to our monthly steering group meeting to share ideas

“What could I get out of volunteering?”

• You will be able to use the space, facilities and materials on offer
• You will meet new people and work as part of a friendly team
• You will be able to try new things and we will listen to your views and ideas.
• You will build confidence and self esteem
• You will learn new skills, making use of the facilities
• You will have another reason to get out of the house and be creative!
• Particularly as a Duty Volunteer ,if you are looking to, you will gain work-based skills related to operations and centre management
